The Down East refers to the eastern most coastal places of Maine and considered a "Blueberry belt" - hence the pairing with Blueberry Cheesecake!
The region features Acadia National Park, countless islands, and is home to two Passamoquoddy communities. Passamoquoddy, like the other Tribes of Maine, have lived in the area since time immemorial. All of the Tribes have stories about their people traveling DownEast to rake blueberries, and it is still an activity that is done today!
